Priti Kothari, M.D.
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry
For Priti Kothari, M.D., child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, philanthropy is part of her heritage and an empowering force in her life.
“My strength and model for life is to be of service to others,” explains the Boca Raton resident. “I was trained by my grandparents to give back.”
Serving as a member of the Advisory Board for the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Dr. Kothari is working on a project to introduce the philosophy of Jainism, an Indian religion (that she has followed all her life) that promotes nonviolence. She is also on the Advisory Board of the North American Federation of Jainism and Chabad-Lubavitch Jewish Student Center serving FAU, Lynn University and Palm Beach State College.
Add to that list serving on the board of the Indian Physicians of Florida and as a member of Rotary Club Downtown of Boca Raton, as well as other activities and interests.
“I have found Boca Raton to be filled with women visionaries who help me find my own power,” Dr. Kothari expresses.
Her family fled Uganda when she was just two years old to escape the regime of Idi Amin. She was raised in the New York metro area, completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University and is a board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist with fellowship training at John Hopkins Medical Center.
Dr. Kothari cites the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the wars in Israel and Ukraine as the most consequential mental health challenges facing adolescents today.
“Young people throughout this country are under a lot of pressure, which is leading to anxiety, OCD and mental illness,” Dr. Kothari points out. “I’m sensitive to how mental health has impacted the family unit.”
She enjoys working with young adults and those with special needs.
“I recently opened satellite offices in Jupiter and Naples,” adds Dr. Kothari.
