Frank Marino
Stylist
Frank Marino spent the earlier part of his career as an automotive mechanic, but as fate would have it, hair was his true calling. Now he is the sole owner of Salon Sora, a 5,000 square foot salon that offers clients a beautiful atmosphere with a personal touch for their hair and beauty needs.
“I originally thought, ‘I’m a mechanic, I don’t know anything about hair,’ Marino says. “But upon the advice of friends I told myself to try it and see how it goes, and now more than 20 years later, I’m here, successful and happy knowing that I truly love what I do.”
Marino also worked his way to ownership. Prior to buying Salon Sora in 2013, he worked there as a stylist specializing in color. But once he saw the business was at risk, he stepped in to make it his own, running the business for eight years with partners and now on his own.
“Seeing the people that I work with, and call family, walk away from one another was not an option, so taking over when I did was right for me. It was important to keep that family intact,” Marino says. “I may be the owner, but they’re the ones who make the salon what it is today. I never lose sight of that. It’s one of the reasons we help cover their health coverage costs, and much more.”
Creating a fun, diverse and inclusive environment that people — clients and employees — love to return to is what makes Salon Sora stand out. Marino strives to provide an exceptional and energetic experience for anyone who walks through the doors.
“As a colorist and an owner, three things matter the most: quality work, a fair price and a really happy environment,” he says.
The quality at Salon Sora speaks for itself, Marino says. The salon becomes a place where clients and stylist grow closer after each visit. It’s a place where everyone is heard.
“Our mission is to make people look and feel their best because when we look and feel beautiful, we interact with the world with a bit more confidence and the challenges before us seem a little more achievable,” Marino says. “And in this changing world, most of us will take all the self-confidence we can get.”
