Neurosurgery
John F. Morrison, M.D., a general neurosurgeon who founded The Morrison Clinic, enjoys seeing how his work changes patient’s quality of life. Often, he meets his patients in their hour of need. But his goal is to help them resume their lives prior to their health issue. He recognizes he plays a pivotal role in their life and can help in some of their most trying times. He feels privileged knowing his patients are happy, healthy and can resume doing what they love.
Dr. Morrison is renowned as one of the best minimally invasive spine surgeons in Florida. He has offices in Palm Beach, Broward and Martin counties and recently opened in Boca Raton. He treats back pain, disc herniations, trauma and degenerative disease. He performs endoscopic spine surgery, spinal fusions, brain tumor and skull base surgery and cerebrovascular neurosurgery.
Unlike many neurosurgeons, Dr. Morrison views surgery as a last resort. “We go through extensive conservative management first and try everything before surgical intervention,” he says. His surgeries are designed to minimize surgical trauma and recovery periods to maximize quality of life. He is trained in both the latest minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery techniques, image guided/navigated and robotic approaches as well as classic open surgery.
As fifth-generation medical doctor, Dr. Morrison’s treatment philosophy is treat each patient as a person. He reminisces of family stories like when his great-grandfather did a tonsillectomy using a kitchen door as a surgical table at the patient’s home. His grandfather’s house-call doctor bag is on display in his Lake Worth office. “Being raised in a healthcare family, I understand what it means to be a healthcare provider,” he says. In the current healthcare environment, the patient is often just a number. “I take a hands-on, old-fashioned approach of seeing patients. I explain what’s happening and why problems are causing symptoms. We discuss options to try to make a difference in their condition.”
Dr. Morrison earned his undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin-Madison and his medical degree at Creighton University. For residency and cerebrovascular neurosurgery training, Dr. Morrison attended Brown University and the University of Buffalo. A Wisconsin native, he now resides in West Palm Beach.
