Naomi Gordon Believes A Good Education Requires More Than Just Learning Your ABCs
On most mornings, you’ll find Naomi Gordon outside of The Ruth and Edward Taubman Early Childhood Center at B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton giving out high fives to children and greeting parents as they start their day.
As director of the only Jewish educational program in South Palm Beach County accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, she believes in providing students with not only a high-quality education but also a caring and nurturing environment.
“All children should have an amazing education, but it involves so much more than reading and writing and math,” says Gordon, who came to the center in July. “We give the children a good foundation, emotionally and socially.”
The Early Childhood Center serves 170 children between the ages of 2 and 5. A new program for infants and toddlers is being created and should be ready by summer. The new program will serve approximately 22 students. Interested parents should call and ask for a tour and to get their names on the list.
“Having a quality infant/toddler program is such a huge need of the community because there are so many parents who must go back to work,” says Gordon. “They will not just be here for babysitting; they will get great education with goals and planning as well as the love they need to grow into great little human beings.”
Because the center is affiliated with B’nai Torah Congregation, many of the children graduate and move on to the Mirochnick Religious School at B’nai Torah. This allows them to continue their Jewish education as well as their relationship with the synagogue.
“The school works in collaboration with the synagogue and rabbis, giving students the love of Judaism,” says Gordon. “We strive to provide students with a foundation that is so strong and personal that it will move with them for the rest of their lives.”
