For 20 years, Pedro A. Piza, M.D., has worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Delray Medical Center, serving Palm Beach and Broward counties. He has witnessed improvements in the field, all for the better, from materials to technology to robots and now to Artificial Intelligence. He has seen better anesthesia and physical therapy techniques.
Dr. Piza is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon affiliated with the Orthopedic and Sports Institute at Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group. He performs various orthopedic procedures, including hip, knee and shoulder replacements, as well as minimally invasive arthroscopic repairs for shoulders and knees. He enjoys treating hips, knees and shoulders, which benefits his patients who often suffer from fractures and falls related to playing tennis, golf and pickleball.
“Once patients have consulted with me for one orthopedic condition, they often choose to continue their care with me for other orthopedic issues,” says Dr. Piza. “This continuity means you don’t have to search for another surgeon — you already have someone you know and trust. I love helping people get back to a normal life.”
“I love what I do,” says Dr. Piza. “I wouldn’t change it for the world.” He enjoys establishing relationships with patients, overseeing and seeing the results of their care. “Orthopedics is rewarding for me.” He especially enjoys challenging cases and teaching residents.
He explains that getting an accurate diagnosis starts with ordering the right tests to understand what’s really going on. “My outcomes speak for themselves.” He’s known for breaking down complex medical terms so patients feel informed. “I speak to my patients in as normal a way as possible to avoid confusion. I treat my patients with compassion and empathy and use surgery as a last resort.”
Dr. Piza is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is fellowship-trained in knee, shoulder and elbow reconstruction and sports medicine. He completed his fellowship at Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Greenwich, Conn., and New York, N.Y. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and an internship in general surgery at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
