The members of South Florida Heart Institute (SFHI) work in a collegial, multidisciplinary environment that focuses on delivering high quality patient care. In addition to general cardiology, the members of the group have additional expertise in a variety of cardiovascular subspecialties including, preventive cardiology, invasive/interventional cardiology, cardio-oncology, and advanced heart failure.
All members of the practice serve as the core faculty for the Florida Atlantic University (FAU)/Delray Medical Center Cardiovascular Fellowship training program and hold faculty appointments at FAU. Their active participation in the fellowship enhances the quality of care for their patients and provides access to cutting-edge research. This joint effort has led us to describe our model as “privademics” combining the benefits of a caring private practice environment with the high-level care that is seen at academic medical centers. Furthermore, the team takes a collaborative approach to patient care utilizing the various resources of the individual members to elevate care to each of their patients. Members of the group hold leadership roles in the hospital medical staff working to ensure high quality cardiovascular care is provided for their patients both in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
They see patients with both routine and complex cases of heart disease and heart conditions including heart failure, angina, arrhythmias, hypertension, congenital heart disease and aortic disease, among others.
Because of their long-standing relationship, there is a level of communication and collaboration that is not common in other practices.

Dr. Eric Lieberman is the Vice Chief of the Medical Staff at Delray Medical Center and the National Director of Cardiology for Tenet Healthcare and Regional Medical Director of Cardiology for the Palm Beach Health Network. He sees general cardiology patients with a focus on cardio-oncology and preventive cardiology.
Dr. Jonathan Vafai is the Chief of Cardiology at Delray Medical Center. He is board certified in cardiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and internal medicine. A Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and Northwell Health trained noninvasive cardiologist, his interests also include echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and stress testing.
Dr. Mark Fisher, who has 30 years of interventional cardiology experience, specializes in all aspects of cardiovascular disease including the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. He is the Medical Director of the practice’s nuclear cardiology laboratory. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Dr. Arthur P. Weiner is an interventional cardiologist, is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He specializes in cardiac consultation, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
All four physicians have taken on leadership roles within the medical center in an effort to elevate care and monitor quality of care beyond their cardiology practice.
In addition, the team includes Jonathan Kahan, M.D., Benjamin Ravaee, M.D., Houman Khalili, M.D. and Phillip Habib, M.D., all are board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. Additionally, Drs. Kahan and Ravaee are board certified in echocardiography, Dr. Khalili is board certified in Interventional Cardiology and Dr. Habib is board certified in Advanced Heart Failure. The entire team is core faculty of the Florida Atlantic University Cardiovascular Fellowship program.
