Merissa Alcalay
Turf Landscaper
Merissa Alcalay, founder and owner of Turf Girl in Boca Raton, has many pinch-me moments. She was a stay-at-home mom and now she’s a successful business owner. And she witnesses her success as she travels around South Florida. “I love when I’m driving and see one of our pink trucks.”
Turf Girl is a premier full-service synthetic turf design and installation company. They provide detailed hands-on design and quality installation of all varieties and styles of synthetic turf. All installations are performed by highly trained, experienced and in-house personnel.
They service everything from standard turf lawns, pool decks, putting greens, driveways, custom ivy walls to rooftops. They work at residential and commercial properties, country clubs, HOAs, hospitals, schools, shopping centers, dog parks and more in Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties. Typical clients seek their expertise for unique designs and installation or have an existing design plan and want them to implement it through their installation process. They’ve completed over 2,000 projects since they launched in 2020.
Clients include The Boca Raton Resort and Beach Club, Delray Marketplace, Kips Bay Decorator Show House of Palm Beach, Boca West Country Club, High Ridge Country Club, The Greenbrier, Tri County Animal Rescue, Throw Social, Dada Delray, The YMCA and the “Insta-Famous” Palm Beach Blue Door Residence, among others.
A New Jersey native, Alcalay lives in Delray Beach with her husband, three children and one dog. Her family wanted a low-maintenance, pet-friendly, aesthetically pleasing alternative to the standard grass lawn. So, they tried synthetic turf. She was blown away by how her backyard looked. Not only is it functional and beautiful, but her children and pet could run and play without worrying about chemicals and pesticides. Plus, synthetic turf lets her have a pristine yard year-round, without the hassles of a traditional sod lawn like mowing or weeds. And it withstands high levels of foot-traffic for long periods of time, lasting 15 to 20 years. She raved so much about the lawn that her husband jokingly called her “The Turf Girl.”
Alcalay knows that landscaping is predominantly dominated by men. “But we’ve been able to separate ourselves from everyone else in the industry here in South Florida,” she says. “Between our customer service and the prestigious properties we service, we provide excellent work.”
