Board Certified Cardiologist Dr. Andre Landau Takes Good Care Of Patients’ Hearts

If you’re having a heart attack, Andre Landau, M.D., can save your life. A board certified cardiologist, he has decades of experience in treating heart attacks, replacing defective heart valves and opening clogged arteries.

“We offer 24/7 emergency care as well as comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for patients dealing with heart disease,” says Dr. Landau, who is medical director for interventional cardiology at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach.

One leading-edge interventional cardiology procedure involves replacing a damaged heart valve in older patients who have aortic stenosis, a life-threatening condition with symptoms like chest pain, fatigue and shortness of breath. Dr. Landau has extensive experience with the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows patients in their 70s, 80s and 90s to enjoy better health and overall quality of life.

“This procedure has been approved for patients who are too old or sick for major heart surgery and will likely become the procedure of choice in the next few years,” he says.

Since opening his South Florida practice in 1995, Dr. Landau has treated thousands of cardiac patients at Broward Health North.

“Our team has extensive experience in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures,” he says. “That includes treating heart attacks and other medical emergencies.”

Dr. Landau says the symptoms of a heart attack include a dull heavy pain in the chest that can be mistaken for indigestion. Pain or numbness may radiate to the arms or the jaw, or there might be a sudden burst of heavy sweating.

“If you feel these symptoms, you should call 911 and get to the emergency room right away,” he says. “That’s vital because the key thing in heart attacks is time – the longer it takes for treatment, the more heart muscle is lost permanently. Fortunately, our paramedics are well trained in assessing heart attacks and send vital information to the hospital so our cardiac catheterization team is ready to save a patient’s life.”
