Substance Use and Mental Health Disorder Treatment and Recovery

Caron Treatment Centers, an internationally recognized non-profit organization expert in substance use disorder treatment and recovery, recently expanded its Florida operations to meet the needs of the community. Caron opened The Keele Medical Center, a 100,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art medical facility in Delray Beach, and launched a standalone Mental Health Program to address the growing demand for quality mental health care.

Dr. Adam Scioli, Corporate Medical Director & Head of Psychiatry for Caron Treatment Centers, will spearhead the initiative, supported by Dr. Barbara Krantz, Medical Director, and Dr. Angelo Asheh, Physician.

“At Caron, we take an integrated, whole-person approach for our patients,” says Dr. Scioli. “With the addition of Keele, we offer the full continuum of care, beginning with detox and medical stabilization, which is an extremely critical time for the patient. It’s important that patients receive an accurate diagnosis early in their treatment, especially when a co-occurring disorder is involved, to reach a sober and healthy lifestyle.”

The Keele Medical Center includes a medical stabilization unit, 40 beds for residential treatment, as well as neurocognitive services, research and medical education. It is staffed with highly credentialed clinicians, physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists and nurses, with specialties that include integrative medicine, internal medicine, addiction medicine and chronic pain.

Caron’s Older Adult Program is designed to meet the specific needs of adults 55 years of age and older, who have been historically overlooked for substance use disorder treatment. The Mental Health Program treats young adults and adults who are dealing with ADHD, anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorders, depressive disorders, dual diagnosis, obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorders, thought disorders and trauma.

“Of the 55 million older adults in the U.S., approximately 10% will require treatment for substance use disorder,” says Dr. Krantz, head of the Older Adult Program. Dr. Scioli continues, “And according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 20% of U.S. adults experience mental health issues. The need for these services has never been greater, as Florida’s population has rapidly increased since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the demand for healthcare services has outgrown the available supply.”
