An estimated 48 million people suffer from varying severities of dry eye. In fact, it’s one of the most frequent complaints seen in eye doctor offices. “It’s not usually caused by one issue and can’t be solved with a magic drop,” says Ryan Beck, O.D., medical director at Dry Eye Rescue Clinic in Boca Raton.

Many people associate dry eye sensations with burning, itching and grittiness. “But the No. 1 most prevalent symptom is intermittent blur or fluctuating vision,” says Dr. Beck. He says that patients attribute their dry eyes to aging, hormones, lack of sleep or too much screen time. However, he says that over 70 different causes contribute to this condition. “We determine those causes and customize individual treatment plans,” says Dr. Beck. “Our goal is to provide relief from your symptoms and get your eyes healthier.”

For many years, doctors had limited diagnostic tools and treatment options available to effectively treat and manage this condition. Fortunately, many tools are available now for doctors to properly diagnose and customize a treatment. “People come to us when they’ve been everywhere,” Dr. Beck says. “They’re usually negative as nothing has been working.”

The clinic offers some of the most extensive dry eye testing and treatments on the market. This brand-new, full-service facility is one of the few places in South Florida with the latest imaging and therapeutic options. “We offer treatments unavailable at many other places in the county or state,” Dr. Beck says.

“We push to have anything that is groundbreaking and the highest level of care.” Therapies include LipiFlow therapy, light-based IPL (Intense Pulse Light), lid debridement, warming thermal treatments, nonsurgical lid lifts and blepharitis treatment. “We’re adding new treatments every few months.”

The center and their website sell over 300 different products related to dry eyes. You’ll find eye drops, beauty products and other items that are safe for the eyes.

A second-generation optometrist (and one of five optometrists in his family), Dr. Beck received his doctoral training at Nova Southeastern University. He did his clinical training at University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
