Dr. Joshua Light’s Skillful Hands Help Patients Hear Better And Breathe Easier

Joshua P. Light, M.D., knows noses … and ears and throats. A double board certified physician in otolaryngology/sleep medicine and a fellowship-trained ear microsurgeon, Dr. Light has been in private practice in Palm Beach County since 2002.

Dr. Light received his ENT training at NYU Medical Center before returning to his home state for his fellowship training at the Ear Research Foundation in Sarasota. Now a nationally recognized expert in minimally invasive procedures designed to treat chronic sinus conditions, he has helped thousands of patients breathe easier.

One of the procedures expertly employed by Dr. Light is balloon sinuplasty, a minimally invasive treatment done in his office that reshapes the anatomy of a patient’s sinuses. It works by advancing small balloon catheters into specific locations in the sinus passages and opening them by inflating the balloons.

“We achieve the very best results by offering patients a comprehensive treatment plan all in one location. Combining balloon sinuplasty with allergy testing and shots, we can help patients not only receive treatment for blockages in their nose but also for their underlying allergies,” says Dr. Light.

Studies have found that hearing loss can lead to cognitive decline – sometimes 30 to 40 percent faster than for those with normal hearing.

“When people recognize there is a hearing issue, it’s important to act on it sooner rather than later,” Dr. Light says. “Not only does it improve the patient’s quality of life by hearing better, but it also makes a difference in terms of preserving a person’s mental sharpness and acuity as they age.”

Dr. Light recently began offering the Earlens device, a revolutionary new type of custom-fit hearing aid that uses light and a small lens placed on the eardrum, similar to a contact lens on the eye. The device converts sound energy into light impulses that directly activate the lens and stimulate the inner ear.

“The result is that you can deliver a range of sound that can’t be accomplished with conventional hearing aid speakers,” he says.

Dr. Light is on staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Delray Medical Center and Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery and Laser Center.
