Seth J. Baum, M.D., knows how vital clinical trials are in the development of life-changing therapies.

A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Preventive Medicine, the National Lipid Association and the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, Dr. Baum has practiced cardiology in Boca Raton for over 30 years.

In 2016, Dr. Baum founded Excel Medical Clinical Trials, bringing cutting-edge cardiovascular clinical research to Boca Raton.

“We would not have any of our current life-saving medications without clinical trials,” he says. “And, in clinical research, we are advancing therapeutics that can become available to literally hundreds of millions of people.”

In 2021 Excel Medical Clinical Trials became one of two founding sites in Flourish Research and now Dr. Baum serves as Flourish’s Chief Scientific Officer, overseeing clinical trial sites across the country.

The Boca Raton site conducts many pivotal studies, including those examining cholesterol disorders, heart attack, obesity, diabetes, fatty liver, heart failure and Alzheimer’s Disease.

“In addition to serving Boca Raton and the surrounding region, we also have participants who fly in from the Carolinas, Texas, Alabama and elsewhere for some of our studies in ultra-rare disorders,” Dr. Baum says.

Flourish Boca Raton has a dedicated staff of experienced research professionals including clinical research coordinators, recruitment specialists, quality experts and investigators David Funt, M.D., Rasha Youssef, M.D. and Reina Mendelson, ARNP.

Patients can be referred to Excel Medical Clinical Trials or enroll for studies on their own. There is never a cost to the patient and participation can have far-reaching benefits.

Dr. Baum is a past president of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. He has co-authored over 100 papers, many in top medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Lancet and the Journal of the American Medical Association. He is a Clinical Affiliate Professor of Cardiology at FAU Medical School.
