Taking Addiction Recovery To The Next Level
Many Americans become hooked on painkillers due to an injury or other health-related reasons, as evidenced by the national opioid epidemic. Although many seek treatment, the recidivism rate is high because the underlying cause – whatever is creating the pain – is not treated.
FTX Wellness was born out of the need to help those in recovery not only heal their minds but also their bodies. Launched more than three years ago by Hessam Khatami, D.C., and Octavio Cifuentes, a personal trainer in recovery himself, FTX Wellness provides patients with a multidisciplinary approach to help them achieve sober and pain-free living.
Working with recovery centers, FTX Wellness offers those striving to remain clean and sober with a wide range of services, including physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, nutritionists, acupuncturists, personal trainers and yoga instructors.
“Through our multidisciplinary approach, we evaluate, treat and follow up with these patients to foundationally change the physical side of their injury. That way, as they go through the process of getting sober, it now sticks,” says Dr. Khatami, who also is the official team chiropractor for Florida Atlantic University and Lynn University.
FTX Wellness works with recovery centers treating patients in-house. Once released, patients can go to their 25,000-square-foot-headquarters, which houses a 15,000-square-foot rehabilitation and performance center and 10,000 square feet dedicated to medical care and treatment. This provides those in recovery with a safe space to ensure they don’t fall back into old habits while also making sure treatment is overseen by a professional.
About half of the staff also is in recovery.
“It’s difficult to work with the recovery population without first creating trust. By working with staff who have walked in their shoes, it opens their ears and eyes to our message,” says Dr. Khatami.
Individual and group classes are available for those in recovery as well as the general population.
