Non-Operative Orthopedics

If your shoulder isn’t feeling quite right after an intense pickleball match, turn to Brandon C. Maisel, D.O. He is a non-operative sports medicine physician with Gelb Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Boca Raton.

Dr. Maisel’s areas of expertise include non-operative treatment of spine, shoulder, hand, hip, knee, foot, peripheral nerve injuries (such as carpal tunnel syndrome), fractures and concussion management. In addition to physical therapy and oral medications, treatment options include ultrasound guided injections which may include cortisone or viscosupplementation. Dr. Maisel additionally harnesses the body’s regenerative properties using autologous (your own) platelet rich plasma, adipose and bone marrow. “Regenerative medicine is an innovative treatment that aids your body’s natural healing capabilities,” says Dr. Maisel.

He works closely with Howard Gelb, M.D., physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to provide well-rounded orthopedic care. “Dr. Gelb and I work hand in hand,” he says. “If conservative measures fail or an acute injury occurs, I will refer over to Dr. Gelb to consider surgical intervention.”

Patients range in age from young adolescents to adults. They vary from student athletes to weekend warriors. “The most rewarding part of my job is when a patient comes in with pain and we’re able to get to the root it,” says Dr. Maisel. “Then they can return to what they enjoy doing whether that be gardening at home or being out on the golf course. I want my patients to get back to what they love to do!”

Dr. Maisel grew up right here in Boca Raton. He completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Central Florida. He received his osteopathic degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He subsequently completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Now, he’s back home. “I’m glad to be back, treating family, friends and other patients.”
