The same MRI machine gives patients the most accurate diagnosis, which is critical, Dr. Sperling explains. Misdiagnosis can result in a “one-size-fits-all approach,” in which aggressive over-treatment and surgeries that may cause more harm than good often occur. Sometimes, a tumor only needs to be watched. A biopsy may not even be required. Only with the right diagnosis can the right treatment plan be determined.
