Total Family Eyecare

Optometrist

Steven Sheiner, O.D.

Optometrist

Dr. Steven Sheiner, of Total Family Eyecare in Boca Raton, certainly knows a thing or two about vision problems. He was very nearsighted as a child and, despite yearly eye exams, his vision continued to worsen as he grew. “When I was a kid, there was nothing that could help stop my vision from changing,” he says. “Now there is. As an optometrist, I can help kids with these same issues.”

Myopia (nearsightedness) is accelerating quickly thanks, in part, to the countless hours kids spend in front of screens. And problems can arise if progressive myopia isn’t managed. “Serious eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachments and myopic macular degeneration can develop later in life.”

Dr. Sheiner is one of the few specialists in the area trained in myopia management. There are a number of treatment options available, depending on factors like a child’s age and prescription. He and his staff at Total Family Eyecare make the treatment process painless, easy and quick. “My favorite part of my job is helping kids see better, which leads to better performance in school and sports, more self-confidence and a better self-image.”

In addition to myopia management, Dr. Sheiner also offers comprehensive eye care for both adults and kids, including vision correction, diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease and surgical co-management. “We experience so much of the world through our eyes that it makes sense to protect these vital organs.” He also specializes in hard-to-fit contact lenses, including contacts for astigmatism and multifocal contact lenses.

Dr. Sheiner is a board certified optometric physician who has been practicing in Boca Raton since 1998. He has a Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University and completed an internship at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. “Over the years, I’ve developed a great rapport with kids. There’s nothing I love more than helping them manage their vision changes, while protecting their eyes for the future.”

Dr. Sheiner lives in Boca Raton with his wife and kids. In his spare time, he writes crime/mystery/thriller novels. He also plays the drums and disc golf.
